At Total Health Medical Centre Ltd located in Couva Trinidad, we do ultrasound scans by appointments daily.
With the help of a non-invasive scan, information can be quickly gathered to help diagnose medical conditions. Additionally scans may allow doctors to initiate treatment early and effectively.
Common ultrasound scans performed daily at our facility include:
Pelvic Ultrasound:
A pelvic ultrasound is typically done to assess for causes of menstrual irregularities such as heavy menstrual bleeding, abdominal pain and irregular periods. An assessment of the uterus (womb) and ovaries is performed to look for fibroids, cysts and other common causes such as polycystic ovaries.
Transvaginal / Internal Ultrasound :
A transvaginal ultrasound or internal ultrasound scan is typically done during an early pregnancy which may be too small to be seen on an external ultrasound. Other reasons may include to take a closer look at the ovaries to detect polycystic ovaries.
Abdominal ultrasounds of the liver and kidneys:
These scans may check for causes of abdominal pain such as gallstones, liver disease, kidney stones, kidney cysts, or blockages of the kidney such as hydronephrosis.
Pregnancy (including 3D/4D):
These scans are done during an early pregnancy. Specifically, they are done to:
-
- determine how far along the pregnancy is.
-
- determine the location of the pregnancy (whether it is within the womb or outside of the womb such as an ectopic pregnancy).
-
- determine the due date of the pregnancy.
-
- determine the gender of the fetus (usually done from 20 weeks onwards).
-
- as well as to monitor for common problems experienced during pregnancy.
Doppler ultrasounds (done by appointments only)
Fetal anomaly scans (done by appointments only)
Thyroid:
These scans check for thyroid swellings/nodules. They may also be done in conjunction with a blood test to fully assess thyroid functioning.
Scrotal/testicular:
These scans are typically done to assess for causes of scrotal swelling or pain such as testicular tumors, infections, cysts and fluid collection.
